More literary nonfiction in print!

Because good news never gets old… this is a belated announcement regarding a pair of works of literary nonfiction that recently appeared in excellent publications.

Curtains is a particularly personal essay revisiting four films about performance—The Red Shoes (1948), Persona (1966), Opening Night (1977), and Clouds of Sils Maria (2014)—as a way to think about apprehending or evading truth, seeing and being seen, and which parts o ourselves we destroy en route to actualization. It was published in subTerrain 90 back in the spring.

Cul-de-sac is a ghost story and a love story about houses, migrations, and 19th century gold lust. It was published in The Fiddlehead 292 just a few months ago. Fiddlehead also published a short thing from me regarding Yasuaki Shimizu’s 1982 musical masterpiece Kakashi.
